Sophie Ko Chkheidze’s ash and pure pigment works are original shapes, breaks, collapses, shifts expressing our relationship with images, things and ourselves. As Federico Ferrari in Finis initium – a limited edition book with a comment by the artist about her works in the exhibition – writes, Sophie Ko Chkheidze’s paintings are “panels of ashes where spots of pure color emerge like if they were lost, like a miraculous appearing of something incredible and unexpected. Pigment whose luminous strength tears the darkness that follows when the flame’s ecstasy extinguishes.”
